Pourquoi choisir le chocolat en vrac ?

DMore and more people are choosing to buy their food in bulk. The reasons for this are many and varied. Some find it more economical, others are motivated by the reduction in the amount of packaging or by the possibility of buying just the right quantity.

It’s also a way of avoiding food waste, by buying the exact quantities. Just the chocolate you need: to try out different types of chocolate, or to make your own homemade recipes (snacks for the kids, granola or homemade mueslis).

And very often it’s a way of saving money, because products sold in bulk are cheaper.

Tips and tricks for using chocolate in bulk Buying in bulk requires a certain amount of organisation and a few changes to your habits.

The bulk bag can become an essential part of your zero-waste shopping. Made from fabric, it’s totally reusable and can help you carry your fruit, dried fruit, cereals, biscuits and, of course, your chocolate! It replaces the paper bags provided by the shop, which are nevertheless very practical when you’ve accidentally forgotten your bulk bag… To clean your bulk bag, we recommend that you use Marseille soap or an environmentally-friendly, fragrance-free detergent, and leave it to dry well before re-using it.

To store bulk chocolate properly, it’s important to empty the contents of your bags into hermetically sealed glass containers as soon as possible (away from the food moths that love chocolate…). For example, you can recycle large glass jars and bottles from previous purchases, cleaning them carefully before reusing them.

Chocolate, being a fatty product, tends to absorb odours. So watch out for odours from the kitchen, your bulk bag or your storage boxes. For optimum organisation, we recommend that you make a note on each pot of which chocolate it is (but if you’re an expert, you’ll easily recognise 58% dark or 72% dark, just by tasting it ;) ). And if you’re super organised, you can even complete the label with the purchase date of your products or, even better, the use-by date displayed in the shop.

Another helpful tip: if your shop allows it, bring your own glass jars. You’ll save time because you won’t have to transfer your purchases when you get home, and you’ll be sure to buy the right quantity!

Storage of bulk chocolate

For optimum storage of bulk chocolate, place in clean, dry, hermetically sealed boxes in a cool, dry place away from direct light. The ideal temperature for storing chocolate is between 15 and 18°C.

How do you melt bulk chocolate efficiently?

The advantage of bulk chocolate? Their mini chocolate pod format! The chocolate melts quickly and homogeneously.

But beware of melting! Chocolate is a delicate product. To melt it without burning it, we recommend using gentle heat and proceeding in stages. Firstly, use clean, dry utensils. If you’re used to using the microwave, heat for 10 seconds at a time, turning down the power. If you prefer a bain-marie, make sure that the bowl containing the chocolate does not touch the water in your pan. You’ll also need to make sure that no drops of water come into contact with the chocolate, as this could cause it to ‘clump’.

When the chocolate is almost melted, you can turn off your heat source (saves energy!) and leave it to melt gently and completely.
